Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began in the field of radio and television reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. 1976 Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Then, she became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. From 1981 onwards she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was appointed chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was host and panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. She was on the panel in 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Mitchell covered a wide range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget and the arms control. Mitchell travelled together with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan several times to summits and debate issues including that of the Iran Contra controversy.
